ASSESSMENT Process
Depending on the type of appointment designed for you, the majority of the assessments used by the consultant are standardised, although observation is also used. A standardised assessment means that they have been tried and tested on a large population and have statistical relevance. The tests are used by professionals across the country. If these tests have already been carried out on a previous occasion, an intervening period of at least six months must be allowed before re-testing, in order for the results to be valid.
When carrying out assessments, further issues may be highlighted, warranting more in-depth investigation. In these situations recommendations will be made for a follow up appointment to be arranged as appropriate.
Step One
Following your initial enquiry you will be sent or you can download the following:
- Parent/Carer Questionnaire
- Teacher Questionnaire
- Young Person Questionnaire
You will need to complete the questionnaires and return them to Smart Consultancy together with copies of any reports or information from previous assessments or involvement with other professionals.
Step Two
Prior to confirming any appointment we will discuss with you the best way forward.
Once an appropriate service has been agreed with you, a Service Agreement will be forwarded confirming the appointment times. This should be returned with your cheque for 50% of the agreed fee. The remaining fee will become payable within 7 days of receipt of the report.

INTERVENTION AND REMEDIATION PACKAGES
Depending on the needs of each child, programmes can be delivered at the school, involving teaching/support staff to promote collaboration, or through a home programme. Recommendations and options for intervention will be discussed following assessment and will be tailored to suit the needs of the child and within the context of the family.
